Newsletter 2 - August 2025
Watching Pond (or “Hiking Beach Pond” according to Orion),
Charlestown RI
Here we are, a few days past another new moon. Did you feel it? maybe an increase or decrease in energy, emotions, or something else… So much in meditation, qi gong, tai chi, and internal martial arts goes into heightening our awareness. Awareness of our bodies, minds, energy, and spirit, and from there awareness of our environment- and other beings- from people to animals, plants, and more. With increased awareness of the energies of life we can focus our intentions to be less reactive and more responsive to self and other, and to harness the energies both internal and external to us, including that of the moon and other celestial bodies.
If you missed the inaugural newsletter last month, you can find it here as a blog post. In that letter I talked some about the increase in energy that happens around the new and full moon, so keep that in mind if “things” - your body, mind, emotions, thoughts, feelings, spirit, feel a little more extreme right now, or have over the past few days, and take this as a reminder to be gentle and patient with yourself and others, and engage in some self-care and self-cultivation with meditation, qi gong, yoga, tai chi, or anything that brings you peace. The gravity of syzygy of the Sun, Moon, and Earth during new and full moon times pulls “things” to the surface and exaggerates what is. So generally a peaceful meditative person will feel more peaceful and meditative, a stressed and frustrated person will feel more stressed and frustrated, etc. That’s just general, not a hard and fast rule. But with that awareness, we can start to shift our focus and energies to be more in alignment with how we want to grow through life.
Interestingly, since last months letter, my newsletter subscriber list has exactly doubled from 16 to 32 people, so thank you for subscribing! Those are of course sacred numbers in the process of creation doubling itself as we see in the Chinese Yi Jing (Book of Changes)… 2,4,8,16,32,64, etc. The same numerology also plays out in cellular division of a zygote to a blastomere, etc. So here’s to that process of evolution and growth for Waypoint Sanctuary!
A unique factor about the new moon this month is that it was the 3rd out of 4 new moons which will take place between the Summer Solstice and the Autumn Equinox, a rare astronomical event that only occurs every 33 months. Usually, we just have 3 new moons between a solstice and equinox.
Also coming up in September… Intention Fest 2025
Waypoint Sanctuary will have a booth at the 2025 RI Intention Fest!
Held in Ninigret Park in Charlestown, RI, Intention Fest will feature many holistic, wellness, and peace minded practitioners, teachers, and vendors selling goods, offering services, and leading practices and demonstrations! It’s open and free to the public, and I’ll have a booth offering mini $15 acupuncture treatments, and giving Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and Kung Fu demonstrations. I’m currently talking with the organizers about leading some qigong, tai chi, and or meditation practice, and there will be yoga, meditation, at least 1 other Tai Chi teacher, drum circles (BYOD), and more!
Checkout the website for more info at: https://intentionfest.info/
I hope to see you there!
Sunday, September 28th, noon-5pm, Ninigret Park, Charlestown, RI
New 8 Week Tai Chi Class Series
Beginning Mon. Oct 13th at 5:30pm will be a new 8 Week Class Series teaching the 18 movement Tai Chi Form. With a handful of people already planning to attend, there are a few spots left to take your Tai Chi practice to the next level!
As a group, participants will be guided week-by-week, move-by-move through learning the 18 movement Wudang Style Tai Chi Form. In total, the form/routine takes just 3-4 minutes to practice, but of course longer to memorize as one move flows into the next. After completing the 8 weeks class series, students are then welcome to attend the Intermediate Tai Chi class on Wednesdays at 4:15-5:15pm where we practice the 18 movement Tai Chi form, and eventually get into learning the 28 movement Tai Chi form.
